Wonderland Quilt Finished!

The end of summer is one of my favorite times of the year. The weather starts to cool and the potential of fall makes me giddy. Pumpkins and Halloween decorations pop up in the stores and all I want to do is bake and fill the house with scents of cinnamon and browned butter. A lot has been happening in these waning days of summer including one of my biggest accomplishments: I finished my wonderland quilt! Finally after months I completed the darn thing. This quilt is so much better than my previous ones. I feel like I am making so much progress with each quilt I finish that I’m sure one day I’ll get the hang of it.

Now that I’ve finished the quilt, I can give more of my attention to knitting the stag head pullover. I’m almost done with the front panel and then after that I’ll just have the sleeves to do. I’m hoping to actually finish it in time to wear for the sweater weather days ahead but I’m such a slow knitter that I’m not counting on it.

Other tidbits:

My grandma turned 81! I got to celebrate with her and the rest of the family and made this chocolate cake. Everyone agreed it was delicious although I did have to rework the frosting recipe as it was just too much butter for my tastes.

While I’m on the topic of food, I want to mention that I got the new Half Baked Harvest Cookbook. My meal plan for the whole week includes recipes from this book. There are so many yummy looking recipes that it was hard to pick just a few to make, but I’m especially looking forward to the root vegetable and sage pesto baked salmon and the salted brioche cinnamon rolls.

I also just finished watching season 1 and 2 of Grantchester. I got both seasons from the library and watched all the episodes in a matter of days. I believe each season is only 6 episodes so if you are looking for a new show to get into and love bromance and mysteries then I highly recommend it.

I read the picture book Stay by Kate Klise and it is a must read for all dog lovers. I may or may not have cried at the end of it. It’s such a touching story.

And lastly, check out the Brooklyn Tweed Lookbook for Fall 2017. I want to knit everything! I’m currently thinking about the holidays and what I’ll be knitting up for gifts this year and this lookbook just inspires me so much.

Well, back to my needles I go to finish that stag head pullover. I hope your end of summer is lovely!
